Artist/Creator/Computer and Information Systems Administrator
My name is Alan Aine. I am a figurative impressionistic artist, currently based in Brooklyn, New York. I began my art career at the age of twelve but devoted myself to it full time in 2013. I taught myself how to paint. I continue to learn about the creative process from my own perspective. I am mostly inspired by human emotions, particularly attributed to photography, film, music and other media. I create works of art by means of mixed mediums. I currently have art on display in many places around the world, mostly on display in people's homes. I am also a full-time Computer Specialist. I have had the opportunity to perform quality technical and analytical computer support for major financial, marketing and educational institutions. I acquired most of my experience working at Nomura Securities as a Systems Administrator and Software Analyst. During my time at Nomura, I had the opportunity to manage projects involving workstation deployments, mobile device configuration and support, and business continuity exercises. I was even promoted to work directly with various equity sales support teams to assist with developing proper IT solutions. Interoperability issues between the various proprietary trading applications within the firm often occurred due to system changes and upgrades. I gained even more technical experience working as a Systems Technician for D. E. Shaw & Co. and D. E. Shaw Research. I worked alongside some of the most intelligent mathematicians, engineers, chemists, biologists and computer scientists in their field. At D. E. Shaw & Co., I provided a high level of computer technical support and guidance to traders, software developers, lawyers, and their affiliates. At D. E. Shaw Research, I had the pleasure of working with individuals who are still involved in using computational biochemistry to help develop treatments for diabetes and cancer. I learned a great deal of Linux Systems Administration at D. E. Shaw Research.
We are English in Mind Institute (EIM) — a non-profit, adult English program in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and we love our school. Although started by an NGO (International Disaster Volunteers) in the aftermath of the earthquake, we are now a Haitian led, Haitian taught, and Haitian administered operation. We offer biweekly classes to 230 students and follow a Cambridge University English syllabus complete with internationally recognized exams. Along with our lower levels, we are one of the only institutes in Haiti to offer two advanced levels and we also sponsor our graduates to take the TOEFL exam. EIM is supported by Friends of EIM, a US-based 501c3.
