City Year New York (CYNY) is dedicated to improving educational outcomes for low-income youth in 27 schools in four of New York City's highest need communities--the South Bronx, East Harlem, East New York, and Long Island City. In 2015-16, we will serve in 13 elementary schools, 3 K-8 schools, 10 middle schools, and one high school. Through our in-school and afterschool programs, 307 full-time AmeriCorps members offer tutoring, mentoring, social support, and engaging activities to improve attendance, behavior and course performance among New York City youth. AmeriCorps members are present in schools for over 10 hours each day, from the time the first bell rings until afterschool dismissal--forming constructive relationships with thousands of at-risk youth each year. By addressing the root causes of the high school dropout crisis at an early age, we boost academic achievement and self-confidence, preparing more of New York's children for graduation.
